ISO 14001:2026: Key changes and what to expect

or are you planning to obtain it? If so, it is essential to stay informed about the periodic revisions. These are planned and published every few years by the
International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) to keep the standard relevant and effective in a changing world. Although the update is less radical than the changes to ISO 9001, there are already some important themes that you can look forward to. The new version is expected to make changes to the points below.
- Draft version (DIS): February 2025
- Publication: March 2026
Transition period: The transition period is typically 2 to 3 years. The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) is expected to develop mandatory documents for the transition of certificates to the new standards, which will specify the transition period.

Although immediate action is not yet necessary, it is wise to investigate how these changes may affect your management system. By making preparations now, you will be able to transition to 14001:2026 quickly and efficiently when the time comes.
