EV charging stations and infrastructure standards
Find out all the EV charging infrastructure standards we test.
E-mobility is catching on breathtakingly fast. This is a consequence of environmental legislation, global sustainability targets, growing consumer demand and technological advances, in combination with each other. As a professional working in the e-mobility sector, how can you stay ahead of these developments? DEKRA tests, inspects and certifies everything to do with e-mobility: from your charging station to the electric vehicle you use and everything in between.
The more automotive technology advances, the greater the environmental awareness among consumers. At the same time, mandatory targets for carbon emissions are compelling OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers, i.e., producers of automotive parts) to introduce more electric vehicles on the market. From 1 January 2030, for example, in the Netherlands it will only be possible to buy electric vehicles. In the EU, this requirement will be implemented from 1 January 2035 onwards.
Many car manufacturers are currently developing new hybrid and fully electric models. In Europe alone, the expectation is that hundreds of new electrically powered cars will be coming onto the market in the next few years. This trend will have an impact not only on the electricity network and but on charging infrastructure too, not to mention the production of batteries and components for electric vehicles.
All these trends and developments are adding a completely new dimension to the automotive industry. The trend in e-mobility will unite two previously separate worlds: the automotive industry, which follows ISO standards; and the electric world, which works with IEC standards. At DEKRA, we are experts in both of these worlds. As such, we find ourselves in a unique position to bring these two worlds together.

Why is fast charging becoming so important nowadays? And what is the role of Plug & Charge?
In this video, DEKRA expert Beat Kreuter tells more about important trends and developments in e-mobility.
DEKRA provides testing and certification services for all types of electric vehicle (EVSE) power equipment, including residential and heavy-duty charging stations (such as electric buses and trucks), fast chargers, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, inductive charging systems and interoperability with back-office systems. We are the expert in the testing of e-mobility-related products:
At DEKRA we keep a close track of developments in statutory regulations and industry standards. In addition, we take an active part in various standardisation committees and industry-based consortia. These are comprised of OEMs, suppliers, development partners, providers of charging infrastructure, consultants, committee members and other test houses. This participation involves the development of new standards. For example, we help ensure that international standards keep pace with the rapidly changing developments in e-mobility.
In addition, we developed our own cybersecurity certification program. This focuses specifically on the cybersecurity of all types of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE). We developed this based on international standards ETSI EN 303 645 and IEC 62443, among other things. Certified products receive our DEKRA Seal.
