Professional drone testing for safety and reliability
Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (UAVs), better known as drones, can no longer be ignored in society. The drone market has grown exponentially in recent years. With the growing presence of drones, concerns about their general safety, privacy and security are also growing. Manufacturers who market drones must therefore comply with various legal requirements. DEKRA has everything it takes to guide you in drone testing and certification.
Drone testing and certification under European legislation
Since 2021, the European regulation EU 2019/945 has been in force, which requires drones and their systems to meet certain requirements regarding safety and performance. This standard applies to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) within the categories 'open' and 'specific' (C0-C6). The term UAS includes both the drone itself and all equipment around it (such as the controller or the camera). From January 1, 2024, it is mandatory for all new UAS to be certified against (EU) 2019/945 by a notified body (a recognized test laboratory).
All drone testing under one roof
- Cost reduction: By ensuring compliance early in your research and development process, you avoid costly redesigns and even more costly recalls. DEKRA offers you the advice you need for a 'first time right' approach. In addition, we offer a complete testing process for UAV's. As a result, you do not have to go to different authorities and you may avoid unnecessarily high costs and long UAV test processes.
- Easy access to international markets: Testing UAS based on harmonized standards simplifies access to international markets. Do you want to market your drones outside Europe? DEKRA offers you Global Market Access services.
- Possibility to combine with cybersecurity testing: Test your drones at DEKRA against cybersecurity standards as well. This way your drones also comply with the RED Delegated Act: a European directive for all devices with a radio connection. DEKRA offers all tests in the field of cybersecurity so that your product is resistant to cyberattacks.
Our drone test
Drones must meet different requirements and be tested on different aspects. Together with our regular partners, we offer a complete drone testing process where necessary. As a result, you do not have to go through multiple authorities, which can lead to unnecessarily high costs and long UAV test processes. We relieve you from A to Z. The drone tests we offer can be divided into 'indoor drone tests' and 'outdoor drone tests'. This concerns both specific UAV tests according to EN 4709 standards and tests for other related standards. These include:
Indoor drone test:
Outdoor drone test (according to EN 4709):
Drone type testing for fast market access
Drones are complex products that require many different types of drone testing. Therefore, rely on our many years of knowledge and expertise in the field of testing and certification. Together with our customers, we always draw up a tailor-made drone test plan. This way you guarantee the quality of your product and assure yourself of fast and cost-efficient market access.
In addition to the (EU) 2019/945 regulation, we are also experts on the following related regulations for drones:
- General Product Safety (2001/95/EC)
- Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU)
- Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU)
- Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC)
- Toys Directive (2009/48/EU)
- Noise Directive (2002/49/EC)
- RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU)
