ISO 45001 certified companies are obliged to report incidents and violation

Mandatory reporting of accidents for ISO 45001 certified companies

Aug 08, 2022

All organizations try to prevent accidents. Those which are ISO 45001-certified have this goal anchored in their management systems. Nevertheless an accident can still occur. In such cases, ISO 45001 certified clients are required to report serious incidents or regulatory violations to DEKRA. These include accidents resulting in hospitalization, permanent injury or death, and radiation incidents. ISO 45001 certified clients must also report violations identified by the Dutch Labor Inspectorate.

MD 22:2019 (section G 8.5.3) stipulates that SCC and ISO 45001 certified clients must notify the certification body of the occurrence of a serious incident or a violation of occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
Reporting is mandatory in the following cases:
  • In the case of accidents resulting in hospitalization, permanent injury or death;
  • Radiation incidents must be reported to the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS). A radiation incident is an unwanted event involving ionizing radiation. This occurs in the case of:
    • the discovery of an unknown radioactive source;
    • an accident with a radioactive load;
    • the loss of a source;
    • exposure to ionizing radiation;
    • discharge of radioactive substances into air, water or soil.
  • ISO 45001 clients must report to DEKRA if a violation has been identified by the Dutch Labor Inspectorate.
In all instances, a report can be made by contacting DEKRA Audit Nederland. Send an email to audits.nl@dekra.com or complete the 'report an accident' form .
