Luminaires are an integral part of modern home and work settings. EN IEC 60598, the standard for luminaires, was introduced to minimise the risk of fire and other electric hazards. The standard comprises various tests for a range of luminaires and applications, guaranteeing safety for both manufacturers and end users. What is EN IEC 60598?

EN IEC 60598 is a European standard that sets various safety requirements for luminaires in a range of applications. All of the standard’s requirements aim to improve luminaire safety and performance. Given the variety of luminaires and applications, there are various other ‘particular requirements’ setting out certain requirements and testing methods for specific luminaires. EN IEC 60598-1 specifies general requirements for luminaires and is applicable in all cases, even when a product is also subject to particular requirements.
Why is EN IEC 60598 important?

EN IEC 60598-2

EN IEC 60598-2 sets particular requirements for specific types of luminaires. For instance, EN IEC 60598-2-3 covers road and street lighting and EN IEC 60598-2-22 covers emergency luminaires. DEKRA certifies products according to various EN IEC 60598-2 particular requirements.
