EMC compliance scan

Electromagnetic compatibility testing

Electrical devices and components must be able to function properly with other electrical devices. This is known in the business as electromagnetic compatibility. To be certain that your electronic devices work properly in combination with other devices, you can have EMC compliance testing carried out on your products.

Electromagnetic compatibility is all about sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation which is emitted from an external source and by the device itself. Since the number of electronic products on the market is increasing apace, the safety of these products is becoming ever more important. This is certainly the case when it comes to products being used in high-risk situations, such as with medical devices.

Compatibility testing via an EMC compliance scan

As part of an EMC scan, also known as an EMC test , two key features are measured: the immunity and the electromagnetic emission. The electromagnetic emission, also known as the electromagnetic interference, refers to the amount of electromagnetic energy being transmitted by a device. If this is too high, it is liable to interfere with other electrical devices. The immunity of an electrical device refers to the extent to which a device can resist the influence of electromagnetic radiation from other devices. Every electrical product sold within the EU is required to satisfy the European EMC directive. Products which meet the requirements of this are provided with a CE marking by the manufacturer.

A DEKRA EMC report

At DEKRA we have many EMC testing chambers located across the globe. Our EMC facilities for performing EMC compliance scans can be found in the Netherlands, Spain, the US, China, Taiwan and elsewhere. These chambers have various dimensions of up to 10 metres in size, which mean that reports can be drawn up for larger electric vehicles, for example.
The testing locations are equipped so that the immunity and emissions of electrical products can be tested. The results of the testing will confirm whether or not your product complies with the required standards. An EMC report from DEKRA will be able to show that your products are immune to electromagnetic radiation and that they emit a level of radiation that is harmless to other devices.

EMC report for different products

An EMC report drawn up by DEKRA is applicable for different devices. We can therefore perform an EMC compliance scan for the following types of products:
  • Almost every type of electrical device
  • Smart devices for use in the home
  • Telecommunication devices
  • Wireless products
  • Measuring and laboratory equipment
  • Electrical components
  • Power sources and electronics
In addition to these, you can also call on our services for EMC reports on other types of electrical products, components and systems. DEKRA can also carry out EMC testing for larger electrical devices on location. Feel free to contact us here.

Where is EMC compliance testing carried out?

We test with respect to international standards in our own laboratories, as well as on location. In this way, we look after the whole process on your behalf. We decide beforehand on exactly what devices, parts or components will be tested and we update the documentation accordingly. We book the test facilities for performing the EMC compliance scan and keep you informed about progress and results.
