DEKRA expands services for EU emissions trading
DEKRA accredited for EU ETS 2 verification
DEKRA Certification B.V. has been accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) to perform verifications under the European emissions trading system EU ETS 2. Thanks to this new accreditation, DEKRA can act as an independent verification body to assess data from organizations that fall under the extended emissions trading system.
Expansion of the European emissions trading system
From 2024, the EU ETS will be extended to road transport, the construction and real estate sectors, and other sectors. Not only direct emissions from large factories, but also emissions from fuel use in buildings and transport will now be counted and regulated. From 2027, fuel suppliers to these markets will be responsible for the CO₂ emissions caused by the use of their products. With
EU ETS 2
, the European Union aims to expand the scope of the emissions trading system and accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.
Independent verification by DEKRA
As an accredited verification body, DEKRA conducts independent verifications of emissions data and reports covered by the EU ETS. During this process, it assesses whether organizations comply with the monitoring, reporting, and verification requirements set out in European regulations.
“From 2027 onwards, fuel suppliers in the newly included sectors will face the considerable challenge of responsible fuel use,” says Hans van Rijn, Technical Manager at DEKRA Audit. “We ensure that their reports are accurate, complete, and independently verified. In this way, we make a concrete contribution to achieving climate targets and help organizations prepare for the future.”
