Step by step to BRL 6000-25 certification
After postponement of the starting date of January 1, 2023, the BRL 6000-25 certification (CO system) came into effect on April 1, 2023. Since that date, only certified installation companies and mechanics with a Certificate of Proficiency (CO accreditation) are allowed to perform work on gas combustion appliances associated with a building. This is a consequence of the legal system for work on gas combustion installations contained in the 'Buildings living environment decision' (called Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving in Dutch). This law is also called the Gas Boiler Law (Gasketelwet).
What is the BRL 6000-25 certification?
The BRL 6000-25 certification is an assessment guideline (BRL) that establishes the quality requirements for installation companies working on gas combustion appliances, such as central heating boilers, and the associated flue gas exhaust systems with a capacity of up to 100 kW. BRL 6000-25 is a
quality management standard
within the installation sector that aims to ensure the safety and reliability of installations. The goal is to ensure proper installation, management and maintenance of gas combustion appliances to minimize carbon monoxide incidents and other safety risks.
Is the BRL 6000-25 certification mandatory?
Yes, the BRL 6000-25 certification has been made mandatory by the Dutch government as of April 1, 2023. This obligation applies to installation companies and fitters working on gas-burning appliances, such as central heating boilers and hot water heaters, and is laid down in the Installation Industry Regulations Act (also known as the Gas Boiler Act) and
the Buildings living environment decision
. Only companies that meet the requirements of the BRL 6000-25 and are certified to do so may perform such work. With this, the government wants to improve the quality of installations and guarantee the safety of users.
To which activities does BRL 6000-25 certification apply?
BRL 6000-25 certification applies to companies performing activities on combustion plants with a capacity up to 100 kW. It concerns the execution of work on:
- Gas combustion appliances (installation, repair, maintenance, commissioning); and/or
- Combustion air supplies or flue gas discharge facilities including CLV systems (installation, repair, maintenance and delivery).
As an installation or plumbing company, you can obtain BRL 6000-25 certification from DEKRA.
