The story of Medical Auditor Benedetta Sabiu

Improving patient care with technology

Benedetta started her career at DEKRA in 2024 because she was ready for a new challenge. At DEKRA, her ambition was immediately given free rein: “My ultimate goal is to contribute to improved patient care, and my role as Medical Auditor fits in perfectly with that. At DEKRA, I can really make a difference by helping to make medical devices safer and ensuring that they comply with all applicable standards.”

“As a biomedical engineer, I took several steps to get here. I started my studies in Cagliari, my home country of Italy, and then continued in Glasgow, United Kingdom. During my time in Cagliari, I also did an Erasmus+ internship in Prague for a few months. There, I first worked on light scattering technologies for detecting antibiotic resistance. Later, I helped develop a new tool for the heart chamber. After this period, I started working as an R&D engineer and later as a quality engineer. All these experiences have contributed to the expertise I now use at DEKRA every day.”

Always keep learning

“One of the aspects I appreciate most about my work at DEKRA is that I am constantly learning. We work with international companies that are committed to improving patient care. It is inspiring to be involved in the development of new, advanced technologies from an early stage.
Most of the projects I work on involve active medical devices. However, the world of medical devices is extremely diverse. Fortunately, at DEKRA, we have a team of expert specialists with different backgrounds. This allows us to assess devices from different perspectives. As a result, I not only build on my own expertise, but also learn from others.

Working together in an international team

“What struck me immediately when I started at DEKRA was how welcome I felt. The team is diverse and international, and everyone was ready to help me and show me the ropes. I work with incredibly smart and experienced colleagues who are always willing to share their knowledge. I have already learned a lot here, and that learning process continues every day.
When we are at the office, we always make time to catch up with each other. This not only strengthens our teamwork, but also creates a pleasant atmosphere. During audits, I regularly work with different team members. Sometimes these are colleagues you already know, but often they are new faces. This makes the work extra interesting, because you constantly gain new insights.

“One of the great advantages of working at DEKRA is the diversity of the work. No two days are the same, and every day brings new challenges. This keeps me sharp and motivated to continue developing myself, both professionally and personally.
