EDR Diagnosis
Why DEKRA uses EDR Diagnostics to gain even better insight into technical investigations and accident analysis
Vehicles are becoming increasingly intelligent. Modern cars are equipped with advanced sensors, driver-assistance systems, and electronic control technologies that continuously record data. In the event of an accident, these systems often provide a significant part of the story.
That is why DEKRA uses EDR diagnostics. Using specialized data-retrieval equipment, we can safely retrieve and analyze objective vehicle data. Combined with our expertise in technical investigations, damage assessments, and accident analysis, this provides an even more complete and well-founded picture of the events before, during, and after an incident.
What is an EDR?
An Event Data Recorder (EDR) records key vehicle data related to an incident. Depending on the vehicle, data such as the following may be recorded:
- Speed
- Braking Performance
- Accelerator Pedal Position
- Use of Safety Systems
- Vehicle Status Prior to a Collision
By combining this data with forensic evidence analysis, vehicle inspection, and damage analysis, our experts can more accurately reconstruct technical issues and the circumstances of an accident.
When do we use EDR diagnosis?
EDR diagnostics provide added value in complex or unclear claims cases and technical investigations, where additional insight is needed to reach a well-founded assessment. Examples include situations in which the parties involved provide conflicting statements, accidents resulting in injury, suspected technical malfunctions, and indicators of fraud.
Our approach: Expert and meticulous
The value of EDR data lies not only in retrieving the data, but above all in interpreting it. That is why we combine this technology with the many years of expertise our specialists have in technical investigation and accident analysis.
With EDR diagnostics, we are taking another step forward in terms of transparency, objectivity, and the quality of our services.
