Declaration of Conformity for Vehicle-to-Grid Charging Stations
DEKRA issues Dutch Grid Code AOC to We Drive Solar
May 07, 2026Digital & Product Solutions / Certification / Future Vehicle & Mobility ServicesDEKRA has issued one of the first attestations of conformity for compliance with the Dutch Grid Code (Netcode elektriciteit) to We Drive Solar. The company, which focuses on bidirectional charging solutions, received the certificate for its ISO 15118-20-compliant Vehicle-to-Grid charging stations. The presentation took place on April 21 at the We Drive Solar headquarters in Hengelo.
During this occasion, Bram Holtus, CEO & Managing Director of DEKRA Certification B.V., presented the framed certificate of conformity to Robin Berg, CEO of We Drive Solar.
The certificate has been issued for the products tested by DEKRA: We Drive Solar’s ISO 15118-20 V2G Solar City and Solar Life charging stations. This solution enables bidirectional charging, allowing electric vehicles not only to draw energy, but also to feed electricity back into the grid.
"We Drive Solar is one of the first companies in the Netherlands with a charging point for which an attestation of conformity has been issued for V2G based on the Dutch Grid Code. This enables us to deploy electric cars on a large scale for storing solar and wind energy for later use and for directly reducing grid congestion. The certification of our charging station is therefore an important step", explains Robin Berg, CEO of We Drive Solar.
He continues: “With the Solar City and Solar Life charging station, we turn every suitable electric car into a battery for a 100% sustainable and affordable energy system. From now on, anyone who purchases a Renault 5, Renault 4 or Alpine A290 can use our charging station to lower their energy bill while also accelerating the energy transition. Soon, this will be possible with all electric Renault models.”
Tested in accordance with applicable standards and grid codes
The conformity assessment was carried out based on applicable requirements for grid connection. Compliance with the Dutch Grid Code for Electricity was assessed using the conformity assessment procedures defined in EN 50549-10 together with ISO 15118-20 for the communications aspects.
With this declaration, DEKRA confirms that the tested charging solution complies with the relevant technical requirements for connection to the electricity grid in the Netherlands. Moreover, the product is one of the first on the market to comply with the AFIR Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/656, including support for ISO 15118-20. This is ahead of the January 2027 deadline for secure charging and bidirectional power transfer services.
Bram Holtus, CEO & Managing Director of DEKRA Certification B.V., says: "The energy transition offers tremendous opportunities for e-mobility and innovative solutions such as bidirectional charging. At the same time, it is essential that these technologies comply with applicable standards and grid codes. This ensures safety, reliability, and broad usability. As an independent certification partner, DEKRA supports companies in taking this step with confidence. In doing so, we accelerate innovation and contribute together to a future-proof energy infrastructure."
"This specific AOC for We Drive Solar is an important step for the implementation of Vehicle to Grid solutions. It demonstrates the concept that electric vehicles can support the power grid."
Collaboration focused on safe and future-proof energy infrastructure
This collaboration between DEKRA and We Drive Solar focuses on validating innovative charging infrastructure, with safety, security, reliability, and compliance as key priorities. Bidirectional charging plays an important role in the energy transition, as electric vehicles can be deployed as flexible energy storage within the electricity system.
We Drive Solar develops and manufactures V2G charging solutions specifically designed for integration with local energy systems and the electricity grid, with the goal of enabling more efficient use of renewable energy.
Application in large-scale V2G project
The tested V2G charging stations from We Drive Solar are being deployed, among other initiatives, in the Utrecht Energized project, Europe’s first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid car-sharing project. In this project, MyWheels shared cars are used to store energy and feed it back into the grid, contributing to a more stable and sustainable energy system.
DEKRA is a leading global provider of services in safety, security, and reliability. In the field of e-mobility, it offers state-of-the-art testing facilities supporting ISO 15118 conformance testing, grid code testing, safety, and EMC for the innovative e-mobility sector.
