Two important developments in public lighting

Two important developments in public lighting

Nov 04, 2022

Last month DEKRA was at the Light + Building fair in Frankfurt. As a test institution, we shared everything about testing and certifying products. We are happy to share our insights into the market. In this article you can read about two important developments regarding public lighting, and what opportunities they create for your business.

ENEC+ increases to be a requirement in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

In addition to safety, lighting performance is becoming increasingly important. In many countries CE marketing alone is no longer sufficient. We increasingly see quality marks such as ENEC as a minimum requirement to participate in tenders.
Do you provide public lighting? Then it is wise to offer the ENEC+ quality mark on your products in addition to ENEC. We see an increasing demand for ENEC+ in countries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. ENEC is about the safety of products, while ENEC+ covers performance. With this, ENEC+ gives you access to new markets.
Thanks to years of experience, DEKRA Arnhem has great expertise in testing and certification with ENEC and ENEC+. The ENEC and ENEC+ quality mark is a so-called ISO type 5 quality mark. This type of quality mark provides an extra quality guarantee. Part of this quality mark is an annual audit of the factory and the product.

Cyber security is more than a future legal requirement.

Our world is increasingly connected. Our lighting goes along with that. Unfortunately, this also makes our products increasingly vulnerable to hackers. From August 1, 2024, it is mandatory for products with a wireless internet connection to comply with the RED delegated act: an addition to the RED (Radio Equipment Directive). This shows that your product cannot be hacked or disrupted.
It is extra important that public lighting always works. As a manufacturer, you would do well to think critically about the cyber security of your products. Hacking public lighting can lead to dangerous situations in society.
DEKRA tests whether your product meets the standards of cyber security. For example, we test products against the ETSI EN 303 645 and IEC 62443 standards. Does your product pass the test? Then you can show that your product is cyber secure and that you take risks into account.
